Personal Interview with The AYG List

This past week, I had the privilege of talking with my friend and colleague April Yvonne Garrett on her radio show, The AYG List. We had planned to talk about how mental health challenges are showing up in the news headlines and some of my thoughts about advocacy and faith. But our discussion took a personal turn.

What results is an interview where I share some of my struggles and strategies for living faithfully with a depressive condition. I also share about some ways that faith communities can raise awareness and lower the stigma for people living with mental health challenges. To my delight and surprise, the interview was “Today’s Best” on BlogTalk Radio that day. YOU CAN HEAR THE INTERVIEW HERE.

Monica speaks with heart and vulnerability as she discusses some of the most challenging issues of our day. She speaks out on issues that churches and society often keep silent: mental health, sexual and domestic violence and religious diversity. In academic lectures, she blends her knowledge of religion, cultural studies and literature with social issues to offer new visions of faith. In every setting, she shows audiences how our faith can free us to be more and more of who and how God calls us to be.
